I had been so afraid of what would happen the next day. What if Alejandro Corvinus had found out that I had lied? Kesh and the others assured me they would be prepared, that he wouldn’t find out, that we were safe. I let it go, but it was still in the back of my mind. The day went smoothly. The night, not so much.
First, I walked and talked with Duvalean. Ox’s non-physical lycan brother, Sethean, runs a clan of wolves. We have a contract with them that they will provide us with protection when needed and in exchange, they have a base set up on our land. The clan isn’t a clan of lycans, but instead a clan of wolves. I’ll try to explain: in ancient times when William Corvinus was first bitten by a wolf, the werewolves only changed to wolf form and couldn’t change back. The Underworld series’ portrayal of lycanthropy and vampiricism were rather accurate. This clan that Sethean now leads is ancient: they cannot transform into lycans as Sethean, Ox, or modern-day lycans can, but only into wolves–a more animalistic, instinctive lot with less human traits than today’s lycans–and cannot change back. Technically, since it was Balthazaar and Ox who had taken out the leader of the clan, Ox was offered to take over as he was a lycan. Ox refused the offer and suggested Sethean who had very recently joined us as our ally at the time. Since then, Sethean has taken over the clan and run it well. Duvalean is an agile clan member whose life I saved in a fight against the vampires when Aro’s assassins had paid us a visit. He has a partner/mate, a very strong and talented clan member, but he has pledged a sort of devotion to protecting me as I am a “princess”. He is the most loyal to me and happens to be my best friend–other than the obvious Ox, Malakesh, Gab, Morgaea, and Balthazaar. He, and a handful of others, have been trying their hardest these past several months to convince the rest of the clan to trust me. The only reason they don’t is because I’m a vampire..
Anyway, Duvalean and I were walking around the driveway talking and having some fun joking. That’s when the two from last night showed up. I had been informed previously that they’d had nothing to do with Alejandro’s actions and I was able to identify them last night as messengers for the Kishimura clan. They had business to discuss with Ox and myself, not Sethean as I had momentarily assumed. About that time, Ox’s brother-in-law, Balindaga (Bal-in-day-ga) aka Max (short for Maximus), informed me that there was a storm in the distance (I could see lightning and I assumed it was the Shanxx Collective talking) that “wasn’t right”. I escorted the party, Duvalean included, in to the house to talk to Ox.
Max told him the storm “wasn’t right” and Ox had him keep an eye on it. Duvalean even said that he, and the clan, had been sensing something coming and going. The messengers said that Zie (Zee), a lycan assassin for the Volturii (the head lycan council and lycan version of the Vampiric Volturians), would be returning “soon” and needed to be hidden. Why? We don’t know. Ox had Duvalean fetch Sethean who dropped straight through the roof and surprised me when he did. Haha. Oxand Sethean agreed to hide Zie. It turns out, though, that the Kirishimura clan (the wandering clan that had been trying to invade Sethean’s land due to the warlock) was trying to join up with the Lanninthra clan, Zie’s clan. The “L” clan were currently based in the empty house on our land, the rent-house. Their leader is a very mouthy yet powerful female named Calinifra (Cal-in-if-ray). Duvalean and Sethean took care of what they needed to before Duvalean returned to go with me back outside.
Sadie, my dog, along with other dogs around started barking wildly. I sensed something as did Duvalean. I went back to the door and asked Ox what “soon” meant when the messengers said that Zie would be back soon; he said it could be a couple of days. I went back to Duvalean and told him that if Zie wasn’t due back for a couple of days, who could be on their way here? The L clan was getting anxious and it seemed so was Sethean’s clan.
For the past several days, at mom’s included, I kept hearing a word and a phrase. The word was “Moscow” coming from Balthazaar; apparently, someone important–an Angelic or Demonic of the Original 18)–was in Moscow. The phrase was “Montague is coming for you.” I had no idea who Montague was. Not until last night. Max said, “Montaee is coming for you.” (Mon-tay). According to Duvalean, Montaee and Montague are half-brothers. Montague is a vampire; Montaee, on the other hand, is a lycan. A lycan assassin. On our way back in to the house, I asked Duvalean why this Montee was coming here for me. He explained that he was hired by Daddy Von Hessial (Vannon and Val’s dad, the hunter from 800 years ago when Ox was murdered as a child) to assassinate me. I asked him why.
“You’re the one who will be carrying the twins,” he said. “It’ll be in a couple of months.”
I asked him, “How do you know that?”
“The ancient of our clan has been foreseeing it,” he answered.
Another question I asked was how come I haven’t been seeing them in my dreams and he said that the closer the time comes to me getting pregnant, the more dreams about the twins I will have. It turns out, surprisingly enough, that the dream I’d had that previous night was that I, a vampire, was one month pregnant by a lycan, Ox. Though, I was Sonya from Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and my father, Victor, had found out. In the dream, he thought I was pregnant by a vampire though and handed me a doll of the suspect. This vampire doll had platinum blond hair pulled back in a short ponytail and was dressed rather well like a lord of some sort, a noble. I don’t know who that vampire is because Brigantriad (Morgaea’s husband who murdered her), although platinum blond, doesn’t have long hair–at least, it’s not long enough to be put up in a ponytail.
Duvalean got me into the house and we explained what was going on, that Montee was coming to assassinate me. Calinifra came in with some attitude, she was pissy about something. Duvalean went to fetch Sethean because she refused to listen to someone who wasn’t the “leader of the clan” and not only got into Sethean’s face, but also Ox’s. They all started to bicker about her “taking orders” and while that was going on, Montee showed up. Fired a spike that barely missed me right into our house and it instead hit the wall. Kesh planned to go out there, but I insisted I come. He would agree on one condition: I had to stay behind Calinifra and Sethean. That was awkward because they’re so much bigger than me. I got to sit on the trunk of our car while I talked to Duvalean and watched Montague get ripped to pieces. Kesh came back with a claw and said that he wouldn’t have killed him if the guy hadn’t been so persistent. Figuring it was personal, I asked Kesh why he wanted to kill me so bad.
“It seems he’s more afraid of who hired him than he is of me, which is strange.”
He gave me the claw and a new blade. The blade that Balthazaar gave me to get rid of Alejandro Corvinus in my dreams (the night Kesh told me how) is a beautiful blade. It’s called the Black Rose Dagger. On the one Kesh gave me, I had to push a button on the edge of the hilt for the blade to pop out. It’s the twin to the Black Rose Dagger, called the Black Thorn Blade. I put Montee’s claw on a necklace around my neck and put the Black Thorn Blade away. Kesh left and we hoped that would be the end of the night’s fiasco. Sad to say, it wasn’t.
When we got back into the house, I looked down at my arm. I think my “sight” is definitely improving because I saw a scar clearly visible on my arm in a place that I’d never injured myself before. It didn’t even look much like a physical scar at all. I checked in the mirror and believe it or not, I could see the scar on my cheek that the fight against the warlock had given me. I even checked the scar where Destromada had put a hole in my chest, but I couldn’t see it. Not physically.
All day, I’d been having headaches. First was a powerful migraine that I thought was due to the sun. It came around 4 PM, I took 3 Tylenol, and laid down in our semi-dark bedroom listening to music. I fell asleep. Later that night, I got another headache around 10 PM and again around 12 AM. This time, I took 2 Tylenol to get rid of it. When we got back in to the house, I was feeling sick to my stomach, too. Valik did a “full system check” on me, basically sensing anything that might be harmful to me. Gab wasn’t available, but Balthazaar was. He helped out..I think. Valik said that I basically looked like a porcupine with as many senbon (or throwing needles) that I had stuck in me. Someone had managed to attack me so many times and yet I, nor any of my Givens, felt anything at all which is odd because we usually do. Valik demanded Gab, who has been uber-crabby since yesterday, come out to finish up and get what he couldn’t. She pulled out some that he couldn’t sense and checked me. She said Maladon had to help me because it seemed that I had a fever and a poison in me that only he could cure. She went back to her room, strange for her, and let Maladon handle it.
As he tried to get my mind to relax, I saw an image of Destromada. I panicked and started telling him he was outside, he was here. Maladon got rid of the poisons in my stomach, cleared my fever in a matter of minutes, and despite my warnings that it could be a trap for him, he was out the door to take care of him. Vallen and Jack, my Guardians, were left in the dark room with me as I was weakened. I sensed something in the darkness; a big something. A big, familiar, creepy someone.
Alejandro Corvinus stepped out of the shadows. It had been a trap, not for Maladon, but for me. Vallen stepped in his way and as a result was stabbed in the chest and knocked out of the way. I was too weak to do anything and I couldn’t scream or I’d frighten my sleeping kids. He brought out a Soul Eater.
That’s what one looks like: the thing on her shoulder. They eat souls. The phrase “into the belly of the beast” is true only for a Soul Eater. A soul eaten by a Soul Eater can never return; it is neither destroyed nor alive. It is simply eradicated from existence. Malakesh had once almost felt love before the laws of love concerning the Original 9 were put into place; it was because of this and Balthazaar’s actions from a love destroyed that the laws were put up. Malakesh was in love with a woman just like me named Shannon (ironically) whose soul was eaten by a Soul Eater set loose on her by her own father. The Dark Ages were the result of Kesh losing her. He will never love again, not even me…
I didn’t want to put Kesh through that again and I didn’t want to put Ox nor Balthazaar through it. Alejandro did find out that I had lied to him and insisted he tell me where Zen and Lin were. Balthazaar kept saying “Moscow, Moscow” as he had been doing for the past several days. I told him to shut up, but Alejandro, overhearing me tell Balthazaar to hush when he said “Moscow” jumped to the conclusion that Moscow was where they were. He set loose the Soul Eater anyway. Jack stabbed him in the back with his light sword and Alejandro turned to stab Jack back. I swatted the Soul Eater away and was met by a large, rough hand on my neck. Alejandro was trying to either choke me or hold me down so that the Soul Eater could do its job. I immediately pulled out the Black Thorn Blade and stabbed it into his arm. He let go, I swatted the Soul Eater away again, jerked out the Black Rose Dagger and slashed as Kesh had told me to: across the eyes, from the chin up to his forehead to make a cross and stabbed the blade through his head just above his ear. He screamed and I thought he would have exploded, but I took off running with the Black Rose Dagger in hand. Though, I did stupidly leave the Black Thorn Blade in his arm to let the poisons seep in; I didn’t take it with me so he has it.
I ran as fast as I could into the game room and saw Maladon. Seconds after I stopped, I was choking and trying to catch my breath. He took me down the hall towards the master bedroom and set me against the wall while he took care of the Soul Eater. By the time he returned, I was hysterically crying because of Jack and Vallen and what I’d been afraid of. I stayed on the couch and when I woke up, Jack was using Ox’s body to talk to me. He said they were both okay and that I had nothing to worry about. They, along with Ox’s guardians of Belik, Dralik, and Bralik, had sealed up the house so that nothing could get in no matter what it was. I couldn’t sleep, but I laid in bed until Balthazaar took over.
In his sleep, Ox’s claws dug into my body’s arm. He was having a recurring nightmare again. Balthazaar blocked his claws, took the energy that was in my arm, and fashioned it into a blade. A black blade with gold filigree in the handle. At the tip, he started to make a second smaller blade, but broke it off and instead took Montee’s claw and settled it into the tip of the butt of the hilt. He gave this blade to Ox, let me back out when my body was tired enough to sleep on its own, and I dreamed of vampires. Balthazaar assures me that if Montague, Montee’s vampiric brother, comes to kill me, he will make a twin blade to Ox’s for me with Montague’s vampiric fang.
I am terrified of what Alejandro has in store for me when he returns from Moscow–if he even goes before he gets revenge. He’s furious…and now he had the Black Thorn Blade. But it was a gift from Kesh and I have every intention of getting it back from Alejandro. I’m just worried about Ox and his Givens… What if Alejandro uses them to get to me? He’d said that night he’d possessed Ox that I was “too easy” because I would give anything to protect Ox. What if Kesh can’t protect him this time? I’m so afraid..
